Recently met an old friend after 18 long years. We were university mates and both of us ended up in the UK in quite different occupations. However, despite being only about 100 miles apart we were unable to meet up because of something or the other.

It was quite ironic that we finally met up in Malaysia, around 9000 miles away from the UK. Anyway, we got to talking about cars like car lovers usually do and the cars we drive. My friend recently bought the Ranger Rover Evoque, which coincidentally also happens to be my dream car.

We were discussing car prices and how the Evoque is quite out of my league with prices starting at RM413,888 (without insurance).  Source: Paul Tan.

My friend was visibly shocked as the cost in the UK was around £30K (OTR). That's considered quite a handsome even for a luxury brand. However, it translates to about RM180K at the current exchange rates, which means that we are paying more than double the price of the Evoque here in Malaysia as compared to the UK.

With that amount, I can buy a 2-sty Terrace/Link House 3 bedroom house near my office in Semenyih, Selangor. So literally the Ranger Rover Evoque is a house on wheels.

Award-winning Zimdancehall star Tocky Vibes delivered a stunning performance at the “Econet Million Dollar Storm” event held in the Harare Gardens on Saturday afternoon that must have put his critics to shame.

Despite repeatedly thrilling Zimbabwean music fans in Australia, the United Kingdom and South Africa where he has regularly toured, Tocky Vibes, who was born Obey Makamure, has often got the stick for allegedly failing to deliver at gigs in Harare.

But at the weekend event, where 50 lucky Econet subscribers walked away with $2 000 prizes with an equal number pocketing $500 each, the Mhai singer demonstrated in spectacular fashion that Harare was not too big a stage for him contrary to popular opinion.

Tocky Vibes came to the stage after Zimbabwe’s current favourite entertainer Jah Prayzah had taken the big crowd sky high with another imperious performance but the Rugare-bred youngster, who was backed by a live band, refused to be overawed.

The 22-year-old musician’s playlist included songs from Mhai Singles Collection and his latest album Toti Toti. Though the crowd warmed up to the performance of the title track of his latest album, it was clear that his old hits remain his trump cards.

Early this year when Tocky Vibes started using a live band, he seemed to struggle a bit but on Saturday there were no such glitches. The crowd was particularly impressed by the way the rising star alternated tempos as he played his various hits. It was a performance that showed that at long last Tocky Vibes and his backing band have now fashioned the right blend.

Tocky Vibes’ manager, Elvis Bokosha, attributed his charge’s impressive performance to the good sound engineers on the day.

“We have always insisted that most of the events where Tocky allegedly failed to perform well were down to poor sound. The Econet gig had a good sound engineer who consulted our own sound engineer to create the right sound for Tocky and it worked wonders,” Bokosha told the Daily News.

Tocky Vibes was so delighted with the way the crowd warmed up to his Harare Gardens performance that he decided to hold a free concert in his home suburb of Rugare later that day. Bokosha said the gig, which attracted over a thousand people from Rugare, was Tocky Vibes’ way of acknowledging their contribution to his success.

“Tocky always wants to acknowledge the support he continues to get from the people of Rugare. It was a gig we thought of at the very last moment so we are delighted that so many people, who included friends family, attended,” he said. Daily News

Former wife to Alick Macheso, Fortunate Tafadzwa Mapako, has turned to an emerging Mbare prophet in a new life outside the fame brought by her brief marriage to the Sungura giant. Fortunate Tafadzwa Mapako with pastor Paul Sanyangore.

She has been shying away from the limelight ever since her public fallout with Macheso that resulted in a divorce last year.
Fortunate Tafadzwa Mapako turns to Mbare Prophet.
However, Tafadzwa was on Sunday spotted at pastor Paul Sanyangore’s Victory World International Ministries service in Mbare.

Pastor Sanyangore called out the name Macheso and congregants turned heads hoping to see the musician but it turned out to be Tafadzwa, who went forward to meet the church leader.

However, they had their conversation off microphone and thus the rest of the congregants could not figure out what went on.

With only the pastor and close aides aware of Tafadzwa’s prayer request, there were all sorts of theories and top was that she was seeking a reunion with Macheso.

However, some were of the opinion that she was seeking deliverance to be able to manage her affairs better in her new life away from the popular musician. H Metro.

Harare City Council yesterday demolished 11 houses built on undesignated land in Glen Norah as it moves to restore sanity in the city. This comes as the city is carrying out a blitz against illegal vendors who were wreaking havoc in the central business district (CBD) selling various goods to the extent of roasting maize on pavements.
Council workers, who were protected by municipal police, destroyed 11 houses belonging to a bogus housing cooperative which were at various stages of construction along Kunzekweguta Road and at Makonye in Glen Norah.

A fortnight ago, the city had served the illegal settlers with two week-notices in terms of Section 18(2) of the Urban Councils (Model) (Use and Occupation of Land and Buildings By-Laws Statutory Instrument 109/1979).

The Urban Councils Act empowers local authorities to put and enforce by-laws that prohibit illegal structures.

Illegal structures are buildings erected without approval from the authorities.

The city’s principal communications officer Mr Michael Chideme yesterday confirmed that Harare was carrying a citywide blitz on illegal activities urging residents not to buy land without consulting the city.

“We are going ahead with the removal of illegal structures in Harare. We urge residents not to participate in illegal housing schemes because they will be the biggest losers in the end.

“We also urge anyone who has bought land illegally to report to the police for them to recover their money. We are geared for an orderly and well planned city which resonates with our vision for a world class city in 2025,” he said.

Mr Caesar Kunaka, chairperson of an alleged bogus Zimbabwe Bird housing co-operative said his members did not contest the eviction as they were served with papers two weeks ago.

“We were served with notices last week,” he said without giving further details.

Last month, Government directed municipalities to manage land use after noting that land barons were parceling out open spaces reserved for other purposes to home seekers.

Harare has roughly 20 illegal settlements.

Meanwhile illegal vending continued yesterday in most parts of the city save for areas near Town House where the city pulled down tents and broke some tables.

Although there was no action by the city in its quest to remove illegal vendors from the city’s pavements yesterday, Mr Chideme said council was going ahead with the relocation of vendors.

“It is a process we are undertaking. We will make sure the Central Business District gets the respect it deserves.

Police yesterday said they are still investigating the case in which goods, including bales of second-hand clothes worth thousands of dollars belonging to illegal vendors, were burnt to ashes in Harare last week. Unknown assailants who were reportedly driving a pick-up truck without registration numbers are said to have started the fire.

The incident occurred at the Rezende Street footbridge at around 3am and police are still investigating the suspected case of arson.

The pro-MDC-T National Vendors Union of Zimbabwe (NAVUZ) director Mr Samuel Wadzai yesterday said they had since engaged their lawyers to sue Government and Harare City Council over the issue.

“We have since engaged our lawyers and by end of tomorrow (today) all the legal processes against Government and City of Harare will be ready,” he said.

He said by yesterday they had ascertained that 38 of their members lost their wares valued over $17 000 and they were still conducting their investigations.

Some of the vendors alleged that municipal police had torched the goods.

But chief police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba last week said an informant had told police that occupants in a pick-up truck without registration number plates caused the fire.

Acting town clerk Mrs Josephine Ncube also denied the allegations that municipal police had torched the goods.

“Our investigations show that the fire was started by their (illegal vendors) guards who were trying to warm themselves,” she said.

According to the latest safety test results released by Euro NCAP, the Skoda Superb achieved 5 Stars, thanks to robust crash protection and its Autonomous Emergency Braking systems. The Superb is also equipped with crash avoidance technologies awarded under the Euro NCAP Advanced Rewards scheme such as Multi Collision Brake and Crew Protect Assist.

Among other cars tested, the Hyundai i20 supermini acheived 4 stars which is quite good for its segment, but misses out on the 5 stars due to a lack of an AEB system.

However, the Fiat Panda Cross recveived a modest 3 star rating. The supermini, based on the third-generation Panda 4x4 launched back in 2012, lacked assist technologies and also did not fare well in the latest full width crash test designed to evaluate the protection offered to smaller occupants in the driver and rear passenger seat.

Given below is the list of car safety ratings for 2015 so far, from the Euro NCAP website.

Brethren in Christ, it is with much consternation and fretting that I write this open letter to you. You have known Chichi and I for many years, and you all know that we do not address petty issues in the open. We have always chosen to conduct ourselves with dignity and humility in our dealings regarding the Body of Christ.

However, there has arisen a deep worry concerning two individuals who have been portraying themselves as men that fellowship with us and share our covering. These individuals are Passion Java and Uebert Angel, both of whom use the title of Prophet. These two individuals are not affiliated with Chichi and I, our church: New Life Covenant Church, our International Ministry Network: Jabula New Life Ministries, and Tudor Bismark Ministries. In the past, I have met with both men for brief meetings, and our interactions had been peripheral at best.
Open Letter from Bishop Bismark to Passion Java and Uebert Angel.
We, Chichi and I and the ministries under our covering, do not endorse Passion Java and Uebert Angel, nor do we fellowship with them in any way. We have not sent them nor do they represent us in any capacity.

I must apologize for having to bring this to public light, but it is important that you, our supporters and friends, know that the values Chichi and I hold so dear, should never be misrepresented by anyone making baseless claims as to their affiliation with us. We have carved out a reputation over many years of walking upright in faith, and we will not allow a few individuals to corrupt or taint that.
Open Letter from Bishop Bismark to Passion Java and Uebert Angel.

Top local hip-hop musician Desmond Chideme affectionately known by his legion of fans as Stunner has been nominated among the Top 20 African Best Hip Hop artistes.

The nomination was posted on South African social media site sahiphopmag recently and caused a stir with many hip-hop fans immediately questioning how the compilers had come up with the list.

The “Dhafukorera” hitmaker is the only Zimbabwean on the list which includes the likes of Nigerian kingpin Olamide, South Africa’s K.O, award-winning Ghanain Manifest and Botswana former Big Brother housemate Zeus.
Stunner makes waves... Rated among Africa’s Top 20 hip-hop artistes.
The listers described him as definitely Zimbabwe’s most influential rapper and most successful at the moment.

“His art has taken him around the world and his music managed to get him nominations at award ceremonies in and outside Zimbabwe,” reads part of their citation.

Stunner, who came back from his tour last week, told this paper that he is overwhelmed with the recognition.

He said it will go a long way in developing his career as an artiste.

“With a little support from our locals, there is no reason for us not to be in the top 10 next year. I have done some good quality songs and videos that I have not released yet, so all I need now is the country’s support. Got a hand from a few Zimbabweans in the US and I’m thankful to David Gwatidzo and Lewis from Indianapolis. This is not the time to celebrate but to work towards the prize,” he said.

A music critic in Zimbabwe said Stunner deserved the nomination and given a chance he will scoop international awards.

“I think it’s high time Africa appreciated the talent we have. We are tired of having South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana and all others dominating. Stunner is a force to reckon and believe you me he is the next big thing to happen in Africa.

“I like how he can easily ride on several beats and his composure in music. Recently in US, we heard he turned heads not only with his music but fashion sense as well,” he said.

Meanwhile, for the past weeks The Tazzoita Cash Records CEO has been fighting with award-winning gospel rapper Mudiwa after the two released the same song, with the similar title – ‘Vandikonewa’.

Both songs features Craig Bone on the chorus. A comparison of the tracks on Star Fm’s saw Stunner’s “Vandikonewa” beat Mudiwa’s “Vegodo Vandikonewa” with four votes while the gospel rapper had one.

The two have since gone on to release diss songs apparently aimed at each other. The Herald
